Brake lights stopped working or are always - How do you change the brake switch on a 1991 through 2007 Ford Explorer?

Cause of lights stop workingThe most likely scenario is that the switch, located on the brake pedal, has stopped working.

Look at the top of the arm that the brake pedel is attached to. Above where it pivots. Should be a simple push button about the size of your thumb with 2 wires.

It is toward the upper part of the peddle. It is on the side facing away from the firewall. A 1/2" diameter tube extends from it to the firewall.

If it has a mechanical switch, it will be located somewhere on the brake lever. If it has a pressure switch, it is located near or on the master cylinder.
