Air in a brake line or a bad master cylinder could cause this. Bleed the brake lines if you have been working on any brake cylinder. If this happened without any warning, the master brake cylinder is probably the cause and should be replaced.

How do you know if the master cylinder has gone bad in a 1997 Chevy Corvette?

One sign is if you place you foot on the brake pedal and apply steady pressure, and the pedal slowing goes down toward the floor, the master cylinder is bad. As this car is 9 years old, when replacing the master cylinder, replace all the brake fluid in the entire system with fresh fluid from an unopened can. 1. It could have a leak at the master cylender. 2. the brake peddle slowly goes all the way to the floor.

Why does the brake peddle goes to floor?

Low brake fluid, drums/rotors in need of replacement, pads in need of replacement, air in the brake lines, worn master cylinder, brakes out of adjustment... all possible reasons.

How come when you hit your brakes on your 91 explorer 2wd with rear abs the peddle went to the floor and the truck kinda sped up?

If your brake peddle goes to the floor, you have lost brake fluid from your master cylinder in the engine compartment. Check your rubber brake hoses at each of your wheels, look for any signs of leaking brake fluid at your wheels, connections, lines, and master cylinder.

When it's cold how why is my brakes hard to push down?

Sounds like you may have moisture in the brake fluid. Have your brake fluid totally replaced. Your master cylinder may also be failing. Hold steady pressure on the brake pedal. If it very slowly goes down replace the master cylinder.

Why does my brake pedal bleed done it won't hold pressure?

Probably either from air in the lines or the master cylinder leaking and in need of repair before the brakes go out entirely. To tell the difference, if you pump up the brakes and hold pressure on the peddle and it stays up and then you let off of the peddle and it goes down, it is probably air, bleed the brakes. If after pumping up the brakes and holding pressure it slowly leaks down, you are either losing fluid somewhere or the master cylinder internal seals are bad, fix them before the brakes are gone when you need them.

Why does your brake pedal go down and you feel a crunching sensation when you brake?

Pads are worn out, and your Mater Cylinder is possibly bad. Inspect the brake pads and replace as necessary. Inspect the rotor for damage and have it turned or replace it. If after replacing the pads/rotors, if the brake pedal slowly goes down when applying the brakes, replace the master cylinder.

What happens when the master cylinder goes out in a Buick Skylark?

When you press and hold the brake pedal it will slowly move to the floor. It can also have a catastrophic failure and go straight to the floor with no stopping ability at all. If you hold the brake pedal down and it slowly moves to the floor any at all, replace the master cylinder.
