During the period of 1480-1600, Venice was surrounded by several neighboring states. To the north, it bordered the Friuli region, which was part of the Patriarchate of Aquileia. To the west, it faced the territories of the Duchy of Milan and the Republic of Verona. Additionally, to the east, Venice had proximity to the Republic of Friuli and the Ottoman Empire, which was expanding into the Veneto region.

The major religion in Venice from 1480-1600 CE was Roman Catholicism. The city had a strong connection to the Catholic Church, and religious rituals and ceremonies played a significant role in Venetian society during this time period.

There was not a "Queen of Italy" beetween 1600 and 1700. Italy was not a unified nation at that time. There were different Italian states such as the Republic of Venice, Republic of Genoa, Dukedom of Tuscany, the Papal State and so on.
The First Quarto of Merchant of Venice was published in London in 1600 "by I.R. for Thomas Heyes". The title-page says copies of the script could be bought at the Green Dragon bookshop in St. Paul's Churchyard.
