Major John Andre was executed at Tappan October 2nd 1780 due to the British forces refusal to turn over Benedict Arnold to the Colonial Army. Andre had hoped to sway the colonials who were rather fond of him to be executed by firing squad, but in accordance with the rules of war he was hung.

On September 24th, 1788 two British spies, cousins, named Abraham and Levi Doan members of the notorious Doan outlaws were executed in Philadelphia for aiding British forces. The oldest of the Doans, Moses, was shot during capture Sept. 1, 1783 after submitting to authorities. The Doan executions were carried out in violation of the Treaty of Paris ratified in May 12th, 1784 which provided for the realease of all prisoners of war.
