Nathan Hale, 1755-1776. He was a soldier of the American army in the Revolutionary War, and was caught by the British while reconning their positions in New York City. They hanged him as a spy, and his last words, on the gallows, were, "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country."
He had requested a Bible to read from, but the British refused. He also requested a priest, which they refused to give him.
well it was "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country" but it was Nathan Hale and he was about to get hanged when he said that.
Nathan Hale was the one that famously said "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country" right before the British hung him.
