Umm. Not sure about the galaxy but in most countries, it is balanced due to how our genetics are set up. There is equal probability of a male or female child. However, in some religions, for some reason, they don't want girls so there are in fact more boys because they abort or send away the girls!

there are more boys than girls in India because boys are the ones who carry the "name" on while girls don't do any thing, and also because the boys are the one who bring money back home. Because of this a lot of parents who find out their child is a girl will abort it.
