Nearly all of the state constitutions written in the late 1770s placed most of the power in the legislatures. Legislatures were extensions of the English government in the US colonies.
I believe the all state constitutions are the same because there is something called the US constitution

For the most part, non-white people were not included (or had severely reduced rights) when the original state Constitutions were passed in the late 1700s. Women (of all races) were also excluded.
