"Saints" was the most commonly used name for disciples of Christ's church in the first centry AD. A word search of the New Testament (King James version) shows that the name "Saint or Saints" was used 43 times and the word "Christian or Christians" was used 3 times. Later in the history of the church, the Catholic Church reserving the use of this term for those members who were extremely dedicated and faithful in the church.
Below are the three occurances of the word Christianfound in the New Testament, but the use of the term Christian is not found nearly as often as the use of the term "Saint."
