Oxygen, is, as always, -2, and K is, as always, +1. Since the molecule has to be electrically neutral, you have to solve for x in the equation -2+1+x=0.

Yay for simple algebra :)

x clearly equals +1, so the oxidation for I is +1.

I probably don't have to tell you that is not the usual oxidation number of iodine, which has an oxidation number of -1.

here iodine is not as iodide.
