When a fluorescent lamp is turned on, the electricity excites the mercury vapor inside the tube. UV light is produced. The UV light excites the phosphor coating. The phosphorus atoms relax by releasing a visible light. Since the light emitted by the phosphorus atoms is of a spread spectrum (the frequency is not fixed), the light appears whitish. To summarize, electricity is turned into light.
Mercury vapour gives out several colours of different wavelength the rings formed with different colours would get overlapped and so chaotic image will be there. Therefore, it will require that you use light filters, yellow, green and blue for the different spectral lines, then you get monochromatic light and not a chaotic image at all.

There are actually five planets that can be seen from Earth. They are Venus, Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, and Mercury. Sometimes they are visible to the human eye but sometimes binoculars are needed.
254 nm= 254 x 10-9 m C=λv 3.00 x 108 m/s= 254 x 10-9 m (v) v= 1.18 x 1015 Hz
The light emitted by excited mercury gas is predominantly in the visible spectrum and as a light source is relatively efficient.
That will be 2 years. (textbook)
1 nm = 1e-9m (1 times 10 to the power -9); the basic formula for wavelenght and frequency is: (speed of the wave) = (wavelength) x (frequency); therefore, since the speed of light is 300e6 m/s, the frequency is 300e6 / 400e-9 = 0.75e15 or 750e12 (750 trillion cycles per second).
Between Metal Halide and Mercury Vapor the higher output is emitted from the Metal Halide lamp.

Toxic metals emitted as the battery decomposes (e.g. lead, mercury).

if i knew, it would be a great help to the AS coursework i have to hand in tomorrow :)
we use mercury lamp instead of ordinary lamp because ordinary lamp has many wavelengths when mercury lamp has single wavelength so in constant deviation we use only mercury lamp.
