Call of Duty: Black Op Multiplayer is a game type where many players either online, through LAN, or on the same console gather in a pregame lobby to play cooperatively or competitively to complete a certain mission.

Zombies: A cooperative game type to either play alone or up to 4 players, including yourself, to fight and protect yourselves for a number of waves, each wave being harder than the one before. You help against your defenses you may use weapons, perks, specials (occasionally pop-up when killing a zombie) and boarding up windows.

MP: A cooperative/competitive game type where you attempt to top the objective.

- Team Deathmatch: An ordinary match up with up to 12 players (up to 6 players on each side) and attempt to score the highest points (kills and assists award you with point) before time runs out or be the first team to reach the maximum point limit.

- Mercenary TD: Same as above but this game type prohibits parties and clans.

- Free-for-all: A simple Every-man-for-himself game type with up to 8 players and attempt to score the highest points before time runs out or be the first player to reach the maximum point limit.

- Domination: A team simple territorial game with 3 flags in the entire map and you awarded 1 point per captured flag every few seconds. The first to reach 200 points wins. There is no time limit.

- Headquarters: A team king-of-the-hill type of game mode except in HQ you captured a laptop located in narrow areas. If your team captures the HQ you are awarded points and the HQ expires in a certain time, however, if you are killed while your team still possesses the HQ, you will not respawn until the HQ has expired or is destroyed by the opposing team.

- Capture the flag: A team game mode with both teams having one objective on their spawning side. Both teams have to capture the enemy flags and return it to their side. When a player captures and enemy flag, they are unidentified as the flag barrier on the mini map but on the gameplay screen the player has a big flag on their back. If you kill the enemy flag barrier, you don't know have to literally carry to the flag all the way back to it's rightful place, you may just run into it and it spawns back. First team to return the flag 3 times wins.

- Demolition: A team game mode, where one team is suppose to destroy two objectives with their bombs. However, the objectives are defended by the oppoing team. Destroy them before time runs out. If you destroy one, a load of time will be added to your "Time Left" meter. Both teams switch at half time.

- Search and Destroy: A team game mode similar to Demolition except in SAD

there is one bomb and one life per round. On offense you can either win by destroying one of the two objectives or simply terminating the entire opposing team. On defense you can only win by terminating the entire opposing team (Beware, if an enemy plants a bomb by one of the objectives and your team terminates the enemy team, you still must defuse the planted bomb before it detonates. Or else the other team steals the win)

- Sabotage: A team game mode with one bomb spawned at the middle of the map and each team having an objective on their side to destroy. Any player on a team must collect the bomb forcefully plant and destroy the enemy objective, however in this game mode the bomb carrier will pop up on the mini map whether the spy plane is on or off. The carrier will appear every 3 seconds. This game mode lasts 20 minutes.

- Ground War: A simple TD match with up to 18 players (up to 9 players on each side) and over 1000 points needed to win. The time limit stays the same (10 minutes).

Team Tactical: A variation of randomly selected game modes with up 8 players (up to 4 players on each side). This a minor game mode mostly for beginners, minor skill leveled players or players who dislike the idea of a bunch of players in a game or on a team.
