What is a gre test prep?

The Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) is a standardized test required by the majority of graduate schools in the United States. First administered in 1949 by Educational Testing Services (ETS), the GRE measures verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking skills, and analytical writing not in relation to a specific field. Graduate schools consider these scores during the graduate admissions process as a way of measuring skills acquired by students over time.ETS also offers a number of GRE Subject Tests, designed to test students who specialized in a specific area in their undergraduate education. These tests include:-Biochemistry-Biology-Chemistry-Literature and English-Mathematics-Physics-PsychologyTo prepare for the GRE, many students enroll in test preparation programs or study independently. In both cases, students typically take practice exams and use practice questions to familiarize themselves with the structure and format of the test. Students can additionally use test preparation books and materials to learn and practice common GRE math concepts and vocabulary.Popular GRE test materials include those provided by the GRE creators themselves, and materials provided by Princeton Review and Kaplan. Many local tutoring agencies also have tutors specializing in GRE test prep.

What is the diff between GRE and TOEFL?

GRE is the Graduate Record Examination(s). It is somewhat akin to the SAT - but designed to test at the college level. Some schools use it as part of their assessment of graduate school applicants to determine how likely they are to succeed in graduate school and whether to admit them. The GRE has both a General test and some Subject tests. The General test is supposed to assess both verbal and quantitative (i.e. math) reasoning skills as well as analytical writing skills. As far as I know, all schools that use the GRE for admission evaluations use the General Test. Some schools also require Subject tests in addition to the General test in order to qualify for admission to some of their graduate programs. The Subject tests are intented to test knowledge in the specific subject areas. TOEFL is the Test Of English as a Foreign Language. It is designed to assess how well students coming to (primarily) U.S. colleges from countries where English is not the first language can communicate in English. It is supposed to test the proficiency of students for whom English is not their first language in 4 areas: understanding spoken English, speaking in English, reading English, and writing in English. Since their classes will be taught in English, most of their texts will be written in English, they will have to communicate with their instructors and classmates in English, and they will be expected to write their papers in English, this is an important factor in determining whether they are suited for admission to colleges in the US, especially graduate schools. The two tests are intended for completely different purposes. The GRE uses English to assess verbal reasoning and analytical writing - the TOEFL tests fluency in English.
