I wouldn't go any heavier than 10W. The problem when you use an engine oil with that much higher a viscosity rating than the OEM recommendation is the main bearing in the engine - those tolerances are EXTREMELY tight, and too heavy of an engine oil will prevent that bearing from getting the lubrication it needs.
