It depends very much on the Akita. They are big dogs, and could very easily kill a cat. It is possible that a kitten could be introduced to a household containing an Akita, and that they would learn to get along. It is more likely that a cat and a dog will be able to live in the same household if one or both start their time together as a juvenile; a puppy and a kitten can grow up together, and get along quite well as adults. It is not very common, however, because of the time it takes and because of the risk of losing one to the other.
Even hamsters that are siblings will fight because they like to live alone. Dwarf hamsters can live together though, but only if they re brought up together.
The Akita will do okay in an apartment if it is sufficiently exercised. It is moderately active indoors and will do best with a large yard. The Akita needs moderate but regular exercise to stay in shape. It should be taken for long daily walks.

Large size dog breeds like Akita usually live shorter because of more genetic disorders and early aging. They aged more quickly than small size breeds.
