It depends very much on the Akita. They are big dogs, and could very easily kill a cat. It is possible that a kitten could be introduced to a household containing an Akita, and that they would learn to get along. It is more likely that a cat and a dog will be able to live in the same household if one or both start their time together as a juvenile; a puppy and a kitten can grow up together, and get along quite well as adults. It is not very common, however, because of the time it takes and because of the risk of losing one to the other.
