Americans were drafted into the Vietnam War in 1965.
Drafted.
I am pretty sure you can't be drafted, unless the country is in some major war like WWII and there are no reserves left. During WWII and the Vietnam War men were drafted into the Marine Corps as well as the Army so - yes - some registered with Selective Serviece CAN be drafted into the Marine Corps. As a practical matter, it has only happened during "major war" such as that alluded to by the first person who answered this question. If my sources are correct, most of the Marines during WWII were drafte, 16,000 men were drafted into the Marines during the Korean War and 42,633 drafted into the Marines, during the Vietnam War. No one has been drafted since the Vietnam War, but the possibility still exists.
Regarding the "ethical" question(s) concerning the rules or standards for right conduct or practice...on the part of the US, who represented the main power during the cold war, on behalf of the free world; US citizens who were unaware or simply didn't care (until drafted, then they cared!) about the US's status during the cold war: considered it wrong to mingle in other country's internal affairs/and wrong, to force (by conscription) US citizens into the military to fight in a "civil war" (in this case North vs South)of another country. These were the MAIN questions raised (because being drafted affected THEM).
Since US citizens were drafted to fight the war; it had a negative impact.
Peacekeeping is the purpose of the Canadian military currently, because we are not in war with any other country, we try to keep peace with the ones who are. You could consider us mediators. However it was not always like this, when Canada was in war (ww1 and ww2) the purpose of the Canadian military was to protect our country, citizens and our allies.
Japanese males were CONSCRIPTED (Drafted) into military service.

The policies of substitution and commutation were controversial practices that allowed drafted citizens to opt out of service by either furnishing a suitable substitute to take the place of the drafted, or paying $300.
There are currently around 120,000 men listed in the canadian army who are active. Though there are more who are not active at this time. Back in world war II, they were one of the strongest.
Military conscription was one way in which total war affected ordinary citizens. Other ways included an increase in taxes, and rationing.

The Canadian government tried its best to remain neutral during the Vietnam war, however when the time came Canadian citizens themselves became involved. It is believed that Canadian enlistment in the US Army during the Vietnam era far surpassed the 30,000 who fled as draft dodgers to Canada.
Drafted.
I believe they drafted to the age of 32
