Judaism is a religion, not a race. Human cells do not carry religious genes. Religious belief is not a physical property that can be detected and measured in DNA.

Au contraire. Although there are no "religious genes", Jewish ancestry can often be traced by comparing genetic markers in known descendants.

They only need genetic testing if they have a family history of genetic diseases such as Tay Sachs Disease and don't want to pass them to their offspring. However, Jewish people are not the only ones more likely to carry genes for Tay Sachs disease. Southern Canadians and Cajun folks living in the Southern US are also more likely to carry the genes.

Answer:

Many religious Jews have a genetic test done as a matter of routine before seeking marriage. It's done voluntarily and has been the custom in recent years among religious Jews in Israel; and it helps to prevent any tragedies later on. The test shows if the person in question has recessive genes for disease, so that he/she may seek a marriage partner who doesn't have the same recessive trait.
