Facebook is a fabulous business tool! Many people think of it just as a way to reconnect with friends from high school and college, but it can do so much more than that. To start, those old friends might actually be good business connections.
I use it as a combination business/personal account. I share some personal things about myself to help business colleagues get to know me better and to keep them from thinking I am solely using Facebook to promote my business. But I also regularly post information about my business. I will share news and blog posts in my status update, post articles and videos that might be of interest, upload photos of events (I work in PR so share a lot of information about my clients), post my latest blogs posts and Podcasts and more.
You can also consider starting a Facebook fan page. While Facebook has made it fairly difficult to keep people returning to those pages, because changes to the pages by the admin do not show up in any news feeds, there are ways around it. See my blog post on that topic - http://newworldpr.blogspot.com/2008/08/promoting-facebook-page.html.
But I believe having a Facebook page is going to be like having a Web site. You simply have to be there, because it's where people are looking for you. It's a great place to collect reviews, testmonials, etc.
But for all this work you have to add business colleagues as friends as you meet them and then ask them, if appropriate, to be a fan of your business page. Good luck!
That depends on the privacy settings used.
