You could try, but you would only devalue the coin. Don't clean it or fill any holes. If it's a really nice coin have it slabbed and graded by PCGS or a similar company.

To make it look like the penny is suspended in the cube, do this: Fill a space in the ice cube tray (glass, whatever) half full of water, put it in the freezer. In an hour or so it will begin to freeze; it will get a crispy layer of ice on top. Put the penny on this layer, fill with COLD water (hot will melt the forming ice).
