The batteries are not rechargeable. They must be replaced.
The only way to get a Mercedes key duplicated is to order it through the dealer. There are computer codes that are stored in the key and transmitted through to the cars computer. For this you need a key pre-programmed from a delaer. Hope this helps. "G"

Do you have the "valet key" (black FOB key with the auto-lock & 'panic' buttons are)? We had this problem with our '98 E320 and it turned out the battery in the valet key needed replacing.

You have to buy it from a dealer after giving them the VIN number and proof of ownership. I believe it is sent directly from the factory.
