Yes, you can get fired for that type of absence. There are no laws that say that you must be allowed to keep your job if you go on any type of humanitarian mission. In fact, believe it or not: employers can fire you if you go on active duty, for example, if you are a member of the National Guard. However, most members of the national guard or other reserve military group Inform their employer about this in advance. However, employers are usually compliant in allowing their employees to going such a mission. But they still need their employees to work for them.
