Download SonicStage from Sony. Atrac is a Sony proprietary format. It can also convert from Atrac to MP3. If the content is protected, the sound can be converted using most Creative soundblaster cards, which can record "what you hear" and save it into several other formats.
You have to find something to convert the file. And since Sony is the only company that uses the ATRAC format, their SonicStage program is your best shot.
The new walkman actually does not use the horrible Sonicstage software that it's previous products used. You can play both ATRAC and mp3's on the walkman. An ATRAC to mp3 file converter is included on the software CD that comes in the package. Since the walkman is mp3 capable, you are indeed able to download songs onto it (assuming the songs you download are mp3, wma, ATRAC, or another compatible format).
First off I'm no expert and am myself looking for the answer to this question - but from what I've heard on internet so far, the outlook isn;t that good. If your music on sonic stage is in MP3 format it will be possible to transfer it to itunes, but if in the ATRAC format (used automatically by sonic stage if you rip CD's into it) then it is not possible - But I hae heard you can get an ATRAC MP3 CONVERTER, or another option (all be it labourious) is that you burn your traks back to CD from sonic stage and rip them back into i tunes.
CD files can be converted into ATRAC files using free and commercial media conversion software programs. One of the most popular programs for this task is Total Video Converter.
