*You* probably can't, but you might be able to get the local police to do it. It depends on the local policy though. I do not suggest you take the gun into a police department. I suggest you call or visit the local PD WITHOUT THE GUN and ask them if they can check it for you, and if they say no, ask them if there is a way to do it. If you buy the gun through a local licensed dealer, you don't have to worry about it.
Search for what?
Check with local law enforcement. They can check the serial number against the NCIC data base for stolen firearms. This is a National database that is NOT available to the general public.
You MAY be able to get it from the dealer that sold the handgun. In most of the US there is no process to register handguns with any government agency, but the dealer ertains a copy of the sales paperwork. You would need to know which dealer, and when the gun was purchased.
all current hand guns have serial numbers, including police department handguns. if your handgun has no serial number then the serial # has been illegally removed and there is a possibility gun is stolen and thief removed the serial number........you have a parts gun if no serial number..................
If it has been reported stolen, you might be able to find out by asking the police to run the serial number.
the answer is no
No. You won't be returned a firearm which has the serial number removed.
No way to answer. Sorry.
File a report with the police.
If you think it's stolen, ask the police to run the serial number.
Contact your local police. If it was reported stolen, it should be in the system.
Look up the manufacturer website and type in your Serial Number.
Contact your local police department and give them the serial number. The Police can check on the stolen gun list maintained by the BATFE. If the gun is stolen, the Police will conficate the piece and begin investigation of how it was acquired.
