P2P, or a peer-to-peer network, can compromise network configuration, spread viruses and spyware, and allow access to unauthorized data. The P2P network allows peers to link together to create the network and share resources. Each computer will have equal rights and access. This leaves an obvious security risk to attacks.
Spyware is usually incorporated in with other software such as a P2P file sharing program similar to Kazaa. BonziBuddy is a well known spyware which was installed this way. The user would install Kazaa, not reading the EULA which gave an option to install BonziBuddy along with the Kazaa software; the user would simply click YES, click NEXT and unknowingly installing BonziBuddy as well. This is why it's important to READ CAREFULLY the directions when installing software.
LIMEWIRE, itself will NOT harm your computer. The kind of files you download can. Many of these files contain viruses, spyware, and other computer corrupting nasties. P2P programs are not harmful to your computer, but if you download the wrong file you can be infected.
it kinda does it has no viruses with it but it is a p2p network so it is possible to get a virus from a song
Ares P2P is the best software as far as I know. We get lots of things in it like movies, songs, softwares and many more just 2-3 MB of file. Limewire can also be a good P2P software. Bearshare, too, but I recommend LimeWire.
Limewire is a legal program which uses a p2p networking system. This means it directly connects one computer to another in order to share files. Most media files on limewire are illegal and may also contain spyware, viruses or adware. I highly recommend you DO NOT use this program
Usually referring to software you may have loaded for the purpose of sharing files. Gnutella, emule, bittorrent come to mind.
False
yes
Yes OS X supports P2P protocols and many other common protocols to windows, so there should not be a problem as long as you have compatible software.
False. In P2P network network is only set up once, other computer just have to connect to it.
P2P programs don't have servers, nor do they use a fixed port range. Actually, some p2p programs even encrypt its traffic to avoid monitoring/blocking by signatures. Therefore, to block p2p, you need professional internet filtering products. If you prefer software solution, I will recommend "WFilter Enterprise". http://www.imfirewall.us
