Best Answer

No...TIP31 is NPN. The complementary PNP is a TIP32. They are both large high power (40W) devices.

Why are npn transistors used more often than pnp transistors?

The primary reason that NPN transistors are used more often than PNP transistors is that they usually operate faster (at higher frequencies) because the mobility of the current carriers in NPN transistors (electrons) is much higher than that of the current carriers in PNP transistors (holes).

PnP is the acronym for what term?

Positive-Negative-Positive (in transistors).

What is btj transistors?

They are NPN and PNP. BJT mean bipolar junction transistors. there are two P-N junctions in BJT transisters.

How many pn junction does transistor contain?

Two, either in NPN or PNP transistors

What is a transistor that is normally on with no applied signal?

The PNP transistors conducts when there is no signal at base (0V or grounded), when base current is increased the conduction of PNP transistor decreases.

Why you use NPN transistors rather than PNP?

Switching is faster in NPN transistor than PNP. Because movement of electrons is faster than holes.

What are the two classifications of transistors?

The two basic types of transistors are the NPN transistorand the PNP transistor. Certainly there are many other semiconductor devices, but these are arguably the two basic ones.

What does the arrow in bipolar junction transistor symbol represent?

There a two types of bipolar transistors PNP and NPN . This refers to the doping elements used in the silicon components of this 3 layer device with base always in the middle. The arrow is the emitter wire and shows direction of conventional current flow(positive to negative) NPN transistors (generally used in negative earth circuits) have the arrow pointing away from the base connection PNP transistors ( generally used in circuits with positive earth) have the arrow pointing towards the base connection.

Is it emitter-base junction should be reversed for both npn and pnp transistors acts as a amplifiers?

no, the emitter base junction should be foward for both npn and pnp to act as amplifiers.

Where can one purchase a PNP transistor?

One may purchase a PNP transistor from a local electronics hobby shop or a chain such as Radio Shack. The website "Mouser" also has transistors and downloadable data sheets for them.

Is the pnp transistor in common collector can be replaced with npn transistor?

No. The PNP and NPN transistors are exactly opposite each other in polarity. You cannot just replace one for the other without redesigning the circuit.
