They suck the water.
I used a wet vacuum (shop vac) to suck out the rest of the water. It took awhile (numerous 10 gallon canisters worth) but it also vacuumed up the debris so the pool was nice and clean when done.
A syringe can suck water because water can change shape but cannot be compressed.

Your drain tube is probably clogged, get a shop vac and make a reducer and suck the crud out. You should be good to go after that

underneath the roots suck up the water.
If it's white glue, scrub with warm water and it will soften up. Pick it off if you can, otherwise - keep scrubbing and suck up the moisture with a shop-vac.
If this means white glue, scrub it with warm water and suck up with a good shop vac. Repeat 3-4 times ill it's gone.
