A 12 year old in most places can work for a family owned business.
Most places allow a 14 year old to get a work permit. In most places in the US, if the studio is owned by the family, the children can work there. And it can not be considered a hazardous job.
It is illegal if you work at say a mcdonalds not owned by family. If a family owns a company like say an uncle, you can work for him without breaking child labor laws.
In the state of Illinois, the federal law mandates that a minor can work beginning at age 14. A 15 year old must have a work permit to work in a restaurant.

yeah if you trust your son then let him work in the family bussness its just a matter of time befor he starts to get around things like the he is almost 18 and you should let him work to kinda get him used to that kinda thing

Not really many jobs are available to 12 year old. I tried to get a job then too. Your best option is to work for family, such as a family owned restaurant. Or if that isn't an option, babysitting is good. But other than that, it's not legal to work until you're 14.
