No it's not illegal. I personally know many people who don't even go to H.S. they drop at the eighth grade. But why would you want to at 17? you only have one more year and getting a GED isn't all it's cracked up to be? * A person under the age of 18 may not leave school without the permission of their parents or legal guardian. A minor child who has reached the age of 17 and been granted an equivalency certificate is exempt from compulsory education laws. Texas Education Code Annotated 25-085(b).
I highly recommend that this 14 year old does not drop out of school because it is bad for your future. It's not very good to drop out of school anyways (under any circumstances) because they are still growing up and your choices in life are limited once you drop out. You won't get job opportunities very easily in the future and your life could become harder for you than it already is. Studies show that kids and teens who drop out of school are more likely tobecome jobless or get jobs that pay poorly.
That is true, then again highly inaccurate, I am also 14 and have been wanting to know how to drop out of school in Texas, if you have an answer to that, please let me know. And back on topic, it really depends on what carrier you would like to pursue in, I myself would like to be in the internet marketing/Entrepreneur business, Making How-To videos on Halo: Reach from Bungie, and sell them on a website and make some good money off of that.

It is most likely to be a "no" because : The legal school age to dropout is 16. When you turn 16 years of age you can opt to drop out of school if you choose. This age could vary for each state so I would check with your local school board for exact age requirements before making this serious decision.
