You can do without harm though it will only be 1/100th the brightness as it will only draw 1/100th the intended power, if you put a 24V bulb in a 240V socket it will burn out immediately as it would draw 100 times it's intended power.

power = voltage squared / resistance

What does volts mean on a light bulb?

Electricity in your house or anywhere else comes in volts. When you screw in a light bulb, you screw it in to an electrical socket that has a certain number of volts. The socket can have 3 volts like a flash light, 12 volts like a car, 120 volts like American houses, or 240 volts like some Latin American houses. The light bulb is designed to work with one of those voltages. If you put a 240 volt bulb in a 120 volt socket, it will glow extremely dim. If you put a 120 volt light bulb in a 240 volt socket, it will glow extremely bright, but it will burn out in a short period of time. So you should put a 120 volt bulb in a 120 volt socket. In the United States, you will not have that trouble. However, if you take your yacht to a foreign country, you might put your light bulb in the wrong socket.Another AnswerA lamp will only operate at its rated power when subject to its rated voltage. So, if you want your lamp to operate at its rated power, you must connect it to a supply which provides its rated voltage

Where is 130 volt electrical power used?

You're looking at 130v light bulbs? Well...the answer is "nowhere." A 130v light bulb has a heavier-duty filament in it than a 120v bulb does, so the bulb will last longer. Put it in a regular socket and it will work fine.

How do you know whether to get 120 volt or 130 volt light bulb?

If you want your bulbs to last longer then use 130 volt bulb on a 120 volt system. The light emitted by a 130 volt bulb, when comparing it to a 120 volt bulb, will be a bit dimmer.

Does a 9 volt battery light a light bulb?

Yes, for about .1 second, then it will blow the lamp. A 9v battery will however light three 3.5v lamps.

Can you plug a 220V light bulb into a 240V base?

If it fits and the controlling ballast or electronics is compatible with the bulb type. The 240 volt socket rating is just and indicator of the maximum voltage that can be applied to the socket.

Can you use a 130 volt light bulb in a 120 volt socket?

Yes, the 130 volts you read on the bulb is just the maximum it will handle. It will work perfectly in a 120 volt circuit.

Can you use 220 volt light bulb on 120 volt system - I know the reverse would probably blow the bulb so wouldn't European 220 Volt do ok in 120 volt socket or would it be dimmer than it normally would?

Yes a 220 volt light bulb will run on a 120 volt circuit but at 1/4 of the wattage that the light bulb is rated at. A 100 watt light bulb on 220 would would be equal to a 25 watt light bult on 120 volt system.

What if replace headlight bulb with a higher voltage?

A bulb designed for a higher voltage application than the one it's used in will not shine as brightly as it is supposed to. For instance; a 24 volt light in a 12 volt socket will be dimmer than it's designed to be.

Can you use a 130 volt swimming pool light bulb in a 120 volt swimming pool socket?

Yes, the 130 volts you read on the bulb is the maximum it will handle. It will work perfectly on a 120 volt circuit and will actually last longer than a standard 120 volt bulb.

Can a 220V light fixture be used in the US?

Yes, you can easily use it. Just install it as you would any other 120 volt light fixture and change the bulb from a 240 volt bulb to a 120 volt bulb. It will work just fine.

Can you use a 130 volt 60 watt bulb in a socket that was made for a 110 volt 60 watt bulb?

Can you use a 130 volt light bulb on a 120 volt supply?

Yes, in fact that is what a rough service bulb is rated at. The bulb used on a 120 volt system will have a reduced wattage output as to what it would be on 130 volts.
