If you overfeed a betta, they can become constipated which will often result in severe bloating and swim bladder issues. So they may "look" fat, but treating them for constipation helps.
If you keep a betta in a small, cramped environment and feed him more than he needs, he can get fairly large all around. The problem is when his liver becomes fatty, which results in certain death.
There is really no reason to over feed a fish.

∙ 13y agoIf your fish is fat it most likely looks fat in the stomach/breast area. Feed it about onece every 3-4 days. If it turns a gray brown color your fish is sick. You can go to Petco and get medicine for it. So feed your fish only a couple times a week. Sorry if this doesn't help, but that's all you can really do.
