It depends on what you mean by 'participate.' If you mean to attend a service that is a wedding or funeral, there is no problem. However, if you mean to participate as a member of the congregation, 'take' communion, etc., or in place of attending Mass on Sunday in a Catholic Church, then the answer is no.

I was raised up in a strict Catholic Family, schooled in Catholic Schools, but graduated High School in a Protestant school where we have Church services every wednesday. If we are praying to the same God, does it matter on whose doctrine we follow? Who is to judge which is false and true doctrine. The important thing is the reverence of the prayee. All others are mere inventions of man.

To answer your question; No I don't believe it is a Sin. So sleep peacefully tonight.

I used to worry about sinning, (being brought up in a very religious family) but as I grew older (I'm now 60yrs old), I realized that what the religious called Sin are merely chracter faults that you and I can correct through our own efforts.

.

Catholic AnswerThat depends: Yes, it is always a sin to attend a protestant church INSTEAD of going to Mass. Yes, it is always a sin to worshipin a protestant church. Under certain conditions, it would be okay to attend a protestant church if you have already attended Mass, and you are just there for some other reason, and you are NOT participating in any way which would show your support. For instance, if you have two close friends, both of whom are protestant, and they are getting married, would it be okay to attend their marriage? Yes, provided they are both free to marry (as in, they are not already married to someone else and have gotten a civil divorce, and this is a re-marriage with a different person) and you are not participating in the worship service. If in doubt, please check with your confessor about the particular circumstances. Before the Second Vatican Council, it was always forbidden under any circumstances, now there are a few instances where you may attend for a particular reason, and as a one-time only event. But you may never actively participate in any religious ceremony whatsoever, and there is never a legitimate reason (that I know of) for regular attendance at a protestant church. Such regular action would be deemed apostasy and would necessitate confession, and possibly require a Bishop's intervention to return to the sacraments.

Yes absolutely. Catholics should only receive Our Blessed Lord through the Holy Communion at a Catholic Mass. And they must be in the state of grace to do so. This means any mortal (serious) sins have been absolved by a priest through the sacrament of confession. It is a serious sin for a Catholic to take part in a protestant service, attend Mass instead.

Is Protestant Catholic?

No.AnswerIf you mean 'catholic' with a small 'c', then yes. the word 'catholic' simply means 'universal' and so the Protestant Church is part of the universal Christian Church worldwide. If you mean 'Catholic' with a large 'C' - this usually refers to the Roman Catholic Church and, though the Protestant Church is part of the catholic (universal) church, it is not part of the Catholic (Roman Cattholic) church as this is a separate denomination.

What was the Movement began by martin Luther that protested some teachings of the catholic church?

First off, it's just Catholic, not Roman Catholic. Roman is an epithet first commonly used in England after the protestant revolt to describe the Catholic Church. It is never used by the official Catholic Church. . Secondly, Martin Luther never started a movement to reform the Catholic Church, Martin Luther LEFT the Catholic Church to start his own Church. Which is a completely different thing. That is commonly mislabeled as the protestant reformation, Catholics refer to it as the protestant revolt.
