Doesn't matter if you have a green card. It depends on your nationality.
A "Green Card" is permanent resident card. By definition you can NOT live somewhere else. You can live in the USA and holiday elsewhere, but not the other way around.

It is easier if you apply for a visa first and live in the US. Once you have been here for a while, then apply for the Green Card.
It depends on where you want to travel to...If you are goin to the UK you can enter with your British Passport. Also you should be fine to travel within the European Union with the same British Passport. Your Green card will give you entrance back into the US when you return.

Answer If you get married in the States it would be legal in the UK but not in the States as you need what's called a Green Card to live and reside in the United States and I believe that the only way you can get that card is to apply for it from the UK as you can't apply for that card while on a visitors pass, you have to apply for it from your country of orgin.
