Yes. The only thing a black hole can't 'eat' is another black hole - they would consume each other. The force of gravity has infinite distance, no other force ahs that distance. It takes a bunch of mass (A sun starting out 3x bigger than ours) but once the process starts, it's inevitable: unmerged black holes will be here when the rest of the universe has long burnt out to nothing but heat.

Answer:

Not all black holes are created the same and they all do not act like the YouTube video of the creation of black hole by the LHC (swallowing the Earth in minutes). Micro black holes created during the formation of the universe have mostly evaporated, leaving none smaller than those which have a mass of about 1015 g. (about 1/10,000,000 of the mass of the Earth) and these do not really suck things in from thousands of kilometers away.

Another consideration is that, while black holes "suck things in" there is an area around them where objects approaching at a tangent can orbit the hole. Objects in orbit around the hole will not be sucked in.

And yet another consideration comes from the very definition of a black hole, that its gravitational well is such that escape velocity is greater than the speed of light so that no energy escapes. Matter accreting into the hole may well reach light velocity before crossing the "no escape" zone, be converted to energy and flash away. While this matter is lost, the flow of energy may repel other matter at a more distant point so that does not continue to fall in. There is some supposition that some stars and some galaxies may have black holes at their cores that are in balance with the external matter shell.
