It can be done with modifications to the frame and crossmembers. Fab work is required.

On a 1996 Ford Bronco : The ELECTRIC fuel pump is INSIDE the fuel tank * it is installed through an access hole in the top of the tank

If you do not see it mounted between the fuel tank and the engine, then it is mounted in the fuel tank. Common on the Dodge Neon.
My husband just replaced my fuel pump yesterday...86 ford bronco II with 2.9 ltr engine...it is located inside the fuel tank, cost about $60 at Napa Autoparts...note: my bronco has 4 wheel drive option. 6-25-06 Yes it is electric and is mounted externally on the fuel tank. Actually there are 2- one in the fuel tank with the gauge and pick up and another on the frame rail drivers side apx. front edge of drivers door.
The location of the fuel line depends on where the carburetor is mounted. If the carb is mounted directly on top of the fuel tank, the fuel "line" is the pickup tube that extends from the carburetor into the tank. The carburetor will have to be removed to get to the pickup tube. If the carb is mounted away from the fuel tank, the fuel line will come from the tank.
