Step 3: Assuming your cat is accepting the new food, increase the amount so that you’re giving him half and half new food and old food. Do this for about three days. If your cat is still struggling to accept the new food, don’t increase the amount until he is. Step 4: Change the amounts again so that about one-quarter of your cat’s food is the old variety and three-quarters of it is the new. Again, do this for three days. Step 5: Eliminate the old food from your cat’s diet. After this gradual approach, he should be willing to accept the new food. Be sure to watch your cat closely throughout this process for any changes. If your cat starts experiencing diarrhea or vomiting, stop giving him the new food and consult your veterinarian.
