The only similarity is that they are all related to dentistry and they all work under the orders or direction of a dentist. Dental assistants typically have 6months to 1 year of technical school training and usually make about $15 an hour give or take. Dental Hygiensits have at least 3 if not 4 years of college, must complete an accredited program and must pass national and regional board exams. they generally make at least double what a dental assistant makes, or about $30-40 an hour Dental Lab techs usually make about the same or maybe a little more than an assistant, but definitely less than a hygienist (unless they own their own lab). They don't usually work in a dental clinic, but in an off-site lab and they make dentures, crowns, bridges etc. They don't usually deal with live patients on a daily basis. I'm not familiar with the schooling requirements to be a lab tech. I think you can be trained on the job for some aspects of it.
