Yes it can be benign. From experience my meningioma had been diagnosed for 11 years where it had been growing very slowly for probably up to 30 years. For some inexplicable reason it grew rapidly from February this year and I had to undertake life saving surgery. Due to the location and size of my tumor (Brain Stem) it seemed unlikely that I would survive, but I did. The surgery was deemed a miracle and a complete success, especially as we were told that they would not be able to remove the tumor due to its location, but would try to debulk it, and then I would have to undertake some form of radiotherapy to try and stop it from growing again. Incredibly they removed all of the tumor. A biopsy after the operation showed that it was benign, and no-one knew why it had more than doubled in size in just 2 months.
The surgery was severe and I spent 3 months in hospital trying to get better. After 5 months I started to make some progress and could walk unaided.
After 6 months I started getting a constant headache and a few days ago (coming up to 7 months) following a scan it shows that a tumor has grown rapidly in the same spot as the last one. I have lost all my mobility down one side and have been getting worse significantly every day. The hospital are going to phone me Monday to try and explain the situation and we will see if there is any hope. Although I am deeply upset at the situation, if I hadnt gone through the first operation I would not have known that I was going to be a Grandma for the first time, although I am deeply saddened by the fact that it looks highly unlikely that I will be here to see it born.
I dont think that we know enough about the brain / cancer / tumors to say anything is definite, but all you can do is have hope.
Best wishes for the future.
meningioma
Meningioma's are tumors in the meninges, the membrane that surrounds the brain and spinal cord. Most meningioma's are benign though they can rarely be cancerous.
A fairly common, usually benign class of intracranial tumor affecting the meninges
Meningioma is a benign tumor of the meninges.
Meningioma is a tumor that is found on the meninges. The meninges are the covering that can be found surrounding the spinal cord and brain. Most meningiomas that are found are benign and rarely cancerous.
A meningioma is a tumor in the meninges that surround the brain and spinal cord.
Meningiomas are typically benign brain tumors. They are located in the dura or lining of the brain. On rare occasion they go into the bone. Benign does not mean without deficits or problems however. They are determined on a grading system class 1, 2 or 3...benign, atypical or malignant. Atypical meningioma has a higher chance of recurrence and malignant which are much rarer are cancerous. In answer to you question, most people have them removed and go on to live normal lives. I have had 2 removed...2 surgeries. I am very lucky. I do know of others who have had their lives changed totally and a few who have not made it. This is totally extreme but can happen. You must keep in mind that with any surgery fatality can be an issue.
benign means cancerous in most cases...ex. doctors will tell if a tumor is benign or not...if it is benign...it contains no cancer cells.....if it is not...then you get the idea..... Benign means non cancerous.

Two types of tumors are benign and malignant tumors. Benign tumors are usually harmless and grow at a slow rate. However, they can grow larger and become problematic. Malignant tumors are the opposite, growing at a fast rate and causing serious health problems.
Yes, it is one of the most reliable fast growing company
Neoplasm can either be benign or malignant. And the nomenclature also takes note of the origin. But there areexceptions [*noted later]Benign Neoplasm (-oma)e.g. Fibroma - fibrous tissuesThe nomenclature of benign epithelial tumors is more complex-adenoma -Derivedfrom glands, although they may or may not form glandular structures-papillomas - has finger-like projectionsMalignant Neoplasm-sarcoma:arisingfrommesenchymal tissue.-carcinomas:epithelial cell origin*Benign sounding malignant tumorsMesothelioma, meningioma, lymphomas, melanoma
