But if that is not the case, then the federal law at issue here would be the one that says: Felons cannot POSSESS firearms or ammunition. Possession can be actual or constructive. But even "constructive possession" requires that the felon have both the intent and the ability to control what happens with the gun and to the gun. Just being around somebody else who carries a gun won't do it. But living in a house where somebody else has un-locked guns laying around where anybody can grab them and use them... that's too risky. Felons should not get in that kind of situation.
