my advice would be to try using something more stiff to 'chisel ' it off
A Char Broil Masterflame grill can be cleaned with a scrub brush. Soap and water is the best way to remove the grime.
The motor is under the plastic grill that is at the bottom of the windshield. It's held in place by a bunch of plastic "rivits" that you have to remove to get the grill out.
Let the grill rack soak in a bucket of warm soap and water for twenty minutes. Then, use a grill brush and scraper to remove any ash or food that is still stuck on.

Remove the plastic shroud.Remove the two bolts on top of the grille.Unplug both of the parking lights.
There's like 10 screws on top of the grill (under the hood) remove those and the three rubber seals. Grill surround is now just held in by I think like six clips. You will need to pry the clips apart from the top of the clip because their is a small plastic alignment pin on the plastic on the grill tabs. Be careful not to break the plastic tabs. That's it !!!
Remove the grillyes you have to remove the grill to change the headlights. Remove the 2 turn sig. screws on each side, and realease (6) plastic clips on the top of the grill and (5) clips on the bottom of the grill just above the bumper.

1. Remove 2 bolts and 2 phillip head bolts from the plastic plate holding the top of the headlight unit and remove the plate. 2. Remove the grill by removing 3 plastic screws holding top of grill and pull the grill up and out. 3. Open the plastic plate (no tool required) located on the grill side of headlight unit and unscrew the phillips head bolt that holds the bottom of the unit in place. 4. Pull the headlight unit forward. 5. Turn the round cap behind the bulb to be replaced counterclockwise and remove.
Open the hood and remove the plastic trim fasteners along the top then detach the grille assembly by pulling upward
First you need to clean the grates with a good wire brush and then use the wire brush to clean out the inside of the grill. After your grill is scraped out it might be a good idea to wash it out as well.
