Not exactly. Most trick horses that paw out mathematical answers take cues from their trainers to know when to start and stop pawing. For example, I've seen one trainer ask the question, shift her weight to one foot to tell the horse to paw, and then, when the horse reached the desired number, she shifted her weight to the other foot. Some will drop their arms, raise their hand (under some pretense. Maybe some hair fell in their face?), etc. I'm sure some horses can actually add, but I've never seen it.
