If you sub-lease a unit, then the tenant that leases to you is considered your Landlord. Their landlord is NOT the sub-lessee's landlord. The master landlord, who usually does not allow subleasing, is not bound by the Landlord/Tenant Act toward the sub-lessee. So if they kick out your sub-landlord, they are kicking out EVERYONE. The master landlord cannot lock out his tenant unless they legally evict that tenant. Since a sub-lessee doesn't have the same rights, then they too are locked out.
Landlords usually don't have any obligations due the sub-lessee, so probably yes, but I would check with your state.
if a landlord bugs my apartment, is that an invasion of privacy?
NO, call the police and tell them your situation, get a report then look for a lawyer.Sue for damages and get your stuff back.
If you have a legitimately signed and current lease with the landlord, and you weren't behind in your rent or had some other violation which broke the lease, and, assuming you haven't omitted any critical information (especially from that of the landlord's point-of-view), then, technically speaking, no, the landlord cannot change the locks or prevent you from entering the apartment. However, most landlords would not bother to change the locks or otherwise prevent the tenant from entering without a good reason. You need to discuss it with him/her or contact a lawyer.
The landlord
Visit the apartment or contact the landlord.
Usually the landlord, but there's no law about it.
If you have a lease your landlord would have to take you to court to have you kicked out of the apartment. If you are a month to month tenant then the landlord can request that you vacate with 30 days notice.
You can usually tell by the upkeep of the apartment building. As far as your landlord's character try talking to some of the other tenants.
Follow the landlord's proper procedures for requesting such transfer. There may be a waiting list for that apartment.

What a landlord verifies is completely up to the landlord
That depends on the landlord.
