It can if both people want it to. It depends on the two people involved and how committed they are to each other and keeping the relationship going. Long distance relationships can be difficult but if you both trust each other, have good communication with each other, care for/love each other, and want the relationship to last, then there is no reason that it cannot work. It totally depends on the two people involved and the relationship/commitment that they have with each other.
