Yes. Mother nature normally takes care of its own. The pups are normally of a size that the Mother dog can safely whelp out. But if she has trouble, be sure to take her in to see your Veterinarian as there can be other problems, such as uterine interia, a dead pup blocking the other pups, etc. Once she starts whelping the pups out, they should come out within 2 hours of each other. If she is straining to have a pup for longer than that, get her in to see your Veterinarian immediately. Let him or her know when she is due so that they can be prepared. You need to have dry clean towels, a nice whelping box for the Mom & pups, alcohol, cotton and clean scissors all ready. Make sure to count the after births that should be expelled after the birth of each pup.

If the dog doesn't get the c-section, she and her puppies will most likely die.
