Yes. Male gerbils, no matter how old they are, can impregnate female gerbils. Most female gerbils can no longer conceive after 2 years of age. Either way, it's never wise to put a male and female together unless you intend to breed and provide for several litters. Gerbils are not easy to find homes for.

I think that an older male and a much younger male gerbil are the nicest.. Female gerbils from my experience can be really mean and nasty to each other and you. Boys in general =much better.

If there is ever a gerbil that comes along without the same scent they will be veiwed as a threat to the familiar or single gerbil and attack it for fear of safety. Even two familiar gerbils are separated for hours or days they will respond as strangers and enemys when they meet again.
