If payday loans are legal in your state, and the bill collector is legal in your state, they must abide by the law set forth in the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). They could call you at work if you haven't expressly told them not to in writing. The problem is, most payday lenders are not licensed and they will break the law all day every day, including calling your employer multiple times. They will call anyone they can, often making false and illegal threats. Many of these lenders are underground or outside of the US, making it difficult for authorities to enforce the law. Your best recourse is to be honest with your employer, let them know that you are being harassed by these people and that you have told them to stop calling you at work. It may be embarassing, but it could help with your job in the end. You can also file a complaint with the FTC and your state's financial regulation commission about illegal collections practices.
