The answer is yes. In our agriculture class we did this as an experiment and it worked.
Take several folds of ordinary paper towel and get them good and moist. Lay several ordinary nails on the paper towel, keep the paper towel damp. In a day or two, there will be rust on the nails. Sprinkling salt on the paper towel will speed up the process even more, as will soaking the paper towel in salt water first. \
Transpiration
Dampening a paper towel and covering your left overs before microwaving it is better than covering it with plastic wrap. Plastic wrap, when heated releases toxic chemicals and it goes onto the food.

in my experience for about a week, then they will begin to dry out. Of course, if you add too much water it will give them a funk, so just a very damp cloth, and in general, you dont want them in direct contact with the wet paper towel, as it will make a portion more moist than the rest, which would result in an odd burn. I use a small humidor, but if I need to bring a cigar back from the brink of dry crackyness, I will use a paper towel over night.
Try a paper towel moistened with rubbing alcohol; many inks are soluble in alcohol.
