ok they grow so much better in paper towels if you plant them in soil you could put too much water in and they dont even grow they get squishy and moldy if youput them in a wet paper towel then its better! i did this for my experiment and th wet paper towel thingy grew better! hope this rlly helped!

Take several folds of ordinary paper towel and get them good and moist. Lay several ordinary nails on the paper towel, keep the paper towel damp. In a day or two, there will be rust on the nails. Sprinkling salt on the paper towel will speed up the process even more, as will soaking the paper towel in salt water first. \

Bounty absorb water the faster
My guess would be because a 2 ply paper towel has two layers instead of one.

If it is in water it will start to become the same temprature as the water. But if it is on paper towel the air aroud itwill melt the ice cube.
