It depends on what you mean by police vehicle. A vehicle with blue (or red depending on the locality) lights, a siren, and police markings? No, that would be illegal, at least in my state, and probably all others. In Tennessee, it's illegal to have blue lights or any police insignia on a vehicle unless it's an authorized law enforcement vehicle. You can however, purchase a vehicle with the same engine, suspension, and other specs as a police vehicle. A friend of mine bought a police spec vehicle a couple of years ago with everything except the blue lights and police insignia.
No standard method- as a private citizen, you cannot access the police computer database of stolen property.
In most (if not all) states, it's illegal for a private citizen to have a vehicle that marked as an official vehicle - regardless of whether it's a police ATV or a water department car. This is why used police cars are painted over (usually badly) and have the lights/sirens removed before being sold. It's not illegal to have the same model of ATV as the police do, as long as it isn't marked to impersonate a police vehicle.
Yes, take legal action against him. If it is really fraud that is a criminal offense and you should contact he police.
I would not go on private property to get your vehicle without the police being present. You may end up in a conundrum. Contact the local police and explain the situation.
Call the police
Used police bikes can be found at police vehicle auctions. They are also available for purchase on Websites such as eBay Motors, or for sale on Craigslist.
Cost to a police department- about $968. Cost to a private citizen? About $26,000, plus a $200 transfer tax. There is a sharply limited number of M16s that CAN be transferred to a private citizen, thus the very high price.
I've never heard of it. The cop that told you that is probably arrogant.
It can be impounded by the police, a repo man, or for being parked illegally on private property. It can be forfeited if you fail to make payments on time and the bank repossesses the vehicle.
It is unlawful for a private citizen to wear a security officer badge without proper authorization or credentials. Doing so could potentially lead to legal consequences and is considered impersonation of a security officer.
If the vehicle is illegally parked the police do not need your permission to tow it. The owner of private property can request a vehicle be towed if the vehicle is not authorized to park on the private property. There are other reasons in various jurisdictions for which a vehicle may be legally towed without notice to the owner.
So people can easily recognize the vehicle as a police vehicle.
