Best Answer

No it's very bad for them but they can eat romaine lettuce.

More Info:

Wild rabbits do eat lettuce when they come across it but it isn't a major part of their diet. Pet rabbits can eat some kinds of lettuces sometimes.

Light and white-coloured lettuces (like iceberg) are bad for rabbits because they're high in lactucarium, which can cause diarrhoea, and they're very low in nutritional value.

Dark coloured lettuces - like romaine, chicory (escarole, endive) - have less lactucarium, and they're much healthier. Lettuce can be included in the rotation of "salad greens," but not every day or anything. If your rabbit gets diarrhoea, you should cut back or eliminate lettuce from the diet.

Yes rabbits can, but it has to be fresh. And only give it to them in small amounts.

Rabbits CAN eat spinach, but, like other greens you feed your rabbit, should be given as a treat only. A small sprig of spinach is enough.

Rabbits can eat spinach. In fact, its good for them. (Just like it is good for us.)

However, like all things, its only good in moderation. Too much spinach may cause digestive and urinary tract problems.

Spinach is high in calcium. But so is rabbit urine. (That's why it is usually milky or cloudy in color, in case anyone else has noticed.) Too much calcium in the rabbit's system can shut down kidneys and kill the rabbit.

Thus, it is advised to use spinach as a treat. Not a staple in their diet. A few leaves (perhaps a handful a week) shouldn't hurt any adult rabbit.

A rabbit's diet should consist mostly of hay, plus limited amounts of pellets and fresh leafy greens daily; and water, of course. Anything aside from these foods (including asparagus, which is rather high in sugar) should be considered a treat food only. A bite of asparagus every few days (assuming your rabbit is otherwise eating a healthy diet) is okay.

If a rabbit eats too many treats, at the very least she'll "spoil her appetite" and won't eat enough hay. If rabbits don't eat enough hay they will suffer from gastric problems and dental problems. Other problems can result from sugary treats, like obesity or gas (a potentially deadly condition in rabbits).

Some Disagreement:

- Yes, rabbits can eat broccoli (also carrots and other vegetables). Most rabbits love it.

- However, you should not feed broccoli or cauliflower to rabbits because they cause gas. Rabbits cannot pass gas. The gas builds up inside of them and they can die from this. This is called GI Stasis.

- Broccoli leaves are perfectly healthy and edible for a rabbit and will not hurt them in the slightest.

- However, if your rabbit has a sensitive stomach, broccoli can cause gas and bloating.

To Be Specific:

Rabbits can eat broccoli but, like all cruciferous vegetables, it can cause gas, which can lead to deadly illness. The broccoli leaves are less likely to cause gas than the florets and stems. Some rabbits are more sensitive to crucifers than others.

If your rabbit gets gas easily, you should avoid broccoli and all other crucifers entirely; if not, then it's okay to have them in moderation. The key is to know your rabbit's individual responses to foods. Also, don't give lots of crucifers at one time.

For more information, see the related questions and links below.

Crucifers include horseradish, cress, mustard greens, kale, collar greens, Chinese broccoli, cabbages, Brussels sprout, kohlrabi greens, broccoli, cauliflower, bok choy, rapini (broccoli rabe), turnip greens, rutabaga greens, arugula (rocket), radish greens, daikon greens.

If you notice signs of gas in your rabbit, you should administer first aid treatment, and if it doesn't go away within a 3-4 hours, you should bring your rabbit to a vet. The longer the gas goes untreated, the higher chance of GI Stasis.

Signs of Gas

- Pressing the belly flat against the floor in an awkward position, or curling up into a crunched-up position

- Grinding teeth - this is crunchier and louder sounding than the gentle "tooth purr"

- Lack of interest in eating, playing, or snuggling when normally at that time of day he (or she) would want those things

- Swollen, hard belly

- Loud stomach noises (it's a good idea to have a stethoscope in your first aid kit)

First Aid for Gas

Belly massage: be gentle, and if the rabbit struggles let him go for now, but press firmly into the stomach to try to break up the gas bubbles; rubbing in circles can help, or rippling your fingers along the stomach; try to work the gas toward the anus.

Simethicone in liquid suspension (often a baby pharmaceutical product): the standard dose is 20mg of drug, but larger rabbits might need larger doses. Make sure you know the mg:mL ratio, because it's not the same in all brands. For instance, if your bottle says 40mg/mL, then the dose is 0.5mL. Note that 1mL equals 1cc. Give one dose every hour for the 3 hours, and then once every 3 hours as needed.

Try to encourage the rabbit to keep drinking water, because dehydration will make the problem worse. And try to encourage the rabbit to keep moving around, because exercise can help break up the gas bubbles.
yes ,they can -my rabbits love it .But as with any vegetable , not in large quantities. :)

Rabbits can eat dark green lettuce in moderation, like Romaine, Red Leaf, and Green Leaf. These lettuces can go into the rotation of greens that go in the daily "salad." White and light-green lettuces should be avoided, though, because they are low in nutritional value and can lead to diarrhea and serious illness. See the related question below for more details about a healthy rabbit diet.
