They have what can be called barbs all over their bodies. If you pet a snake going from the head to the tail they are nice and smooth but pet them going from the tail to the head and they feel prickly. These barbs help them hold onto things such as trees so they can climb
I would like to know this answer too! The little bit of information I could find says that they're too heavy to pull their bodies up a wall, though a small one might be able to. But it's very rare that they climb anything. I hope this is true.

It would depend on the type of wall. A vertical and quite smooth wall would be virtually impossible to climb. A wall constructed of rocks would cause few problems for the snake.

HM Rock Climb
Pill bugs can climb rough surfaces like your arm, but have no hope of climbing vertical plastic or glass walls. They sometimes try to climb upsidedown but they usually fall off.
they climb walls with suckchin cups or plungers
As long as there is enough roughness for finger and toe holds, humans can climb walls. Some brick work walls offer enough grip for really advanced rockclimbers.
Mice only climb walls if there is something to grip onto. They can't climb on walls in a house, unless the paint has some sort of grip to it. They can't climb glass, either. But when I got a mouse, there was a thin-grated air vent in the cage, and she hung onto that. =3
